第三約作用，立世最為善，謂法救說：世由類不同，法行世時類別非體，如金作器形別類同，如乳成酪味捨色在，法從未來流至現在，現入過去，唯捨得類非捨得體。

The third, based on function, / is the best in establishing the times." / That is, Dharmatrāta says: The times differ according to modality (bhāva). When a dharma passes through the times, its modality differs, not its substance, just as when gold is made into vessels, the shapes differ while the gold remains the same, or when milk becomes curds, the taste is abandoned while the color remains. When a dharma flows from the future to the present and from the present enters the past, it only abandons and acquires modalities, not abandoning or acquiring its substance.
