第二釋過去業經，意謂業現行為緣，今習氣行勝異相續與起，由此習氣，故愛不愛果生，依今習氣，假說為有過去業。

Second, in explaining the sūtra on past karma: the intention is that taking the active manifestation of karma as a condition, a distinctive, superior succession of traces now arises; through these traces, desirable and undesirable fruits arise. Relying on these present traces, past karma is metaphorically designated as existent.
