Regarding the phrase 'as in the case of the body, a sprout, a river, a lamp, a carriage, and so forth': Ji says, 'Just as transmigration is found among the conditioned factors of the body, external phenomena such as a sprout, a river, a lamp, or a carriage also transmigrate although there is no self; why then must there be a self for the transmigration of the body?' The syllogistic statement is: The transmigration of the internal body definitely has no self, because it undergoes transmigration, just like a sprout, a river, and so forth. Jing says: 'Because it is formed from an aggregation of the great earth, mountains, and so forth, it is called a body.'
