Next, regarding the view of no-self: if you say it is wholesome, non-Buddhists also praise the view of no-self, for only in the text of the Guangbai lun (Śataśāstrakārikāvṛtti) is there a non-Buddhist school explaining that in the stages of hearing and thinking they speak of a self, while through cultivated wisdom they realise no-self. If you say it is unwholesome, yet an omniscient one [praises it]: this refers to their teacher, titled 'Omniscient One', who praised the view of no-self as quickly realising nirvāṇa; to say now that it is unwholesome is therefore unreasonable. If it meant that the Buddha is the Omniscient One praising the view of no-self, others would not believe it. There is another explanation: this mentions the Buddha as the Omniscient One, not a non-Buddhist teacher. The intent of what is refuted here extends to within the Buddhadharma, refuting the Vātsīputrīyas and others who posit a self; hence it is stated thus.
