前破中，景師解云：由二種門發起觀察，由正道理是一門，推逐觀察是第二門。僧玄師云：由二種門發起觀察者，謂由敘計中，教理二門，而致觀察彼計起因緣，由正道理推逐觀察者。破中，以理推徵觀察，彼計皆不應理也。

In the previous refutation, Master Jing explains: observation is initiated by means of two approaches—correct reasoning is one approach, and tracing and investigating is the second approach. Master Sengxuan says: initiating observation by means of two approaches means investigating the causes and conditions for the arising of those tenets through the two approaches of doctrine and reason in the exposition of tenets; 'tracing and investigating by means of correct reasoning' means that in the refutation, one uses reason to examine and investigate that all their tenets are unreasonable.
