Regarding 'greed and so forth': 'and so forth' has two meanings: first, extending outward; second, extending inward. Here, in saying 'greed and so forth,' there are many kinds of greed, all of which are inversions of mind—this is extending inward. Fascicle fifty-three states: Householders are capable of generating inversions of mind; a portion of renunciants are capable of generating inversions of view. The essence of perception is not inverted, but by falsely grasping characteristics it serves as the general approach, based upon which householders and renunciants give rise to inversions of mind and inversions of view, and is therefore given the name of inversion. The treatise explains the fundamental nature and its outflow, distinguishing the essences of the two inversions of view and mind; because the essence of perception is not inverted, it is not re-explained.
