The entanglements (cetokhila) are also three, namely craving, anger, and delusion; through these three kinds arise the five entanglements, which is identical with the Abhidharmasamuccaya. Relying on these five objects, the three such as craving arise and shackle the mind; therefore, the Abhidharmasamuccaya calls them mental entanglements. The Tripiṭaka Master says: The first three are called craving; the fourth is called anger and is also called craving; ignorance pervades all five. Master Jing says: The first three have craving as their nature; the fourth has false mindfulness as its nature; the fifth has indolence as its nature. Some say: The first two have craving as their nature; the third has craving and distraction as its nature; the fourth has flattery and so forth as its nature; the fifth has indolence as its nature.
