"Down to the lowest kunta ants," and so forth: this text previously read, "Killing a broken-legged ant without a thought of remorse—know that this person can sever the roots of virtue." The Tripiṭaka Master said: This contains two meanings: if named "broken-legged ant," it misses ant eggs; if translated as "ant egg," it misses broken-legged ants. Wishing to include both meanings completely, the Sanskrit pronunciation was retained.
