As for the words "five kinds of faults, six kinds, seven kinds, eight kinds," Master Ji and others say: 'One must consult Master Huiyuan's Record on the Bodhisattvabhūmi.' A master says: 'Or understanding six kinds, meaning these desires are designations for fear, and so forth.' Designations are twofold: first, designations arisen for joy and pleasure; second, designations arisen for grief and fear; because words are augmented on account of matters of grief or joy, they are called designations. Bodhisattvas are able to know that the evil phenomena of the five desires are designations for fear. Knowing the faults, they swiftly practice wise giving with the wealth of the five desires; these five, six, seven, and eight kinds must be checked against the Āgamas.
