The second is the gate of the objective support. Jing says: 1. The objective cognitive sphere that is an image accompanied by discursive conceptualization (savikalpa-pratibimba): when the insight-wisdom prior to the bhūmis cultivates in reliance on the teaching, it takes as its cognitive object the image-aspect (nimittabhāga) transformed by itself that resembles the teaching and resembles its meaning, investigating it with the contemplative mind; this is called 'accompanied by discursive conceptualization'. The teaching and meaning of the image transformed by discursive conceptualization is called the 'objective support of an image accompanied by discursive conceptualization'. 2. The objective support that is an image without discursive conceptualization (nirvikalpa-pratibimba): this is also the cognitive sphere resembling the teaching and meaning transformed by the mind of calm abiding prior to the bhūmis; the mind of calm abiding is called the non-conceptualizing mind, and because it is an image manifested by the non-conceptualizing mind, it is called an 'image without discursive conceptualization'. 3. The objective cognitive sphere that is the limit of things (vastuparyantatā): this is the tathatā that is the objective support of calm abiding and special insight within the ten stages; because tathatā completely pervades all things and phenomena, it is called the 'objective sphere of the limit of things'. Alternatively, all phenomena existing as entities and things are broadly called the essence of tathatā, and its pervasiveness is called the 'limit of things'. 4. The objective cognitive sphere of the accomplishment of what is to be done (kṛtyānuṣṭhāna): this refers to the Buddha-stage; on the Buddha-stage, all that is to be done has been accomplished, and therefore the objective support of calm abiding and special insight on the Buddha-stage is called the 'objective sphere of accomplishment'.
