法中,景云:名詮自相,故上論云:自性增言,句詮諸法無常等差別之義。故上論云句者差別增言,字能能戀和名之與句,名所依止。謂由各別所緣作意者,即起名心。謂由總合所緣作意者,起句之心,後之二種發教法心,文名為法。

Regarding Dharma: Jing says: A name expresses intrinsic characteristics (svalakṣaṇa). Therefore, the śāstra above says: 'An augmentative designation of intrinsic nature.' A phrase expresses differentiating meanings such as the impermanence of phenomena. Therefore, the śāstra above says that a phrase is 'an augmentative designation of distinctions.' Syllables are able to unite names and phrases, and serve as the basis for names. That is, by attention directed to distinct referents, the mental state of name arises; by attention directed to synthesized referents, the mental state of phrase arises. These latter two give rise to the mind directed toward the teaching of the Dharma; the written phonemes (vyañjana) are called 'Dharma.'
