20.461

第十八因果門，學地止觀，以淨尸羅及聞思正見以為其因，此是緣因，若止觀種子，以為正因。止觀果者，即以佛地善淨心慧以為其果。又無學聲聞及佛所有出世善法，皆是學在止觀之果。

The eighteenth section, on cause and effect: for śamatha and vipaśyanā in the stage of training, pure śīla and correct view arisen from hearing and reflection serve as their causes; these are indirect causes (pratyaya-hetu). The seeds of śamatha and vipaśyanā serve as direct causes (hetu). The fruit of śamatha and vipaśyanā is the completely pure mental wisdom of the Buddha stage as its fruit. Moreover, the supramundane wholesome dharmas possessed by non-learners, śrāvakas, and the Buddha are all fruits of śamatha and vipaśyanā in the stage of training.
