Bei says: Among the four kinds, the first two discern having grasping and lacking grasping in terms of conceptually arisen [grasping], and the latter two discern having grasping and lacking grasping in terms of innate [grasping]. Within the former, because conceptually arisen grasping exists prior to the stages, this is called 'having grasping'; above the first stage there is no conceptually arisen self, so this is called 'lacking grasping'. Within the latter two, because the two innate graspings exist from prior to the stages up to the tenth stage, this is called 'having grasping'; after the diamond[-like samādhi] the two graspings are severed forever, so this is called 'lacking grasping'. The general distinction is like this; if explained according to degrees, above the first stage there is also lacking grasping.
