Fourteenth, the section explaining the portal of secrets: first, it determines the secrets of the Tathāgatas in terms of [nirvāṇa] without remainder; next, it comprehensively determines the secrets of the Buddhas in terms of [nirvāṇa] without remainder and other distinctions. In the former, there are three parts: first, it clarifies that when those of indeterminate gotra and the Tathāgatas abide in [nirvāṇa] without remainder, they are free from the three kinds of fear, etc.; second, it clarifies the activities of benefiting others when persons of indeterminate gotra and persons of bodhisattva gotra abide in [nirvāṇa] without remainder. Therein, it first directly determines benefiting others, and next cites sūtra analogies to illustrate it. The analogy of the illusionist demonstrates their manifestations. The analogy of the merchant leader demonstrates abundant benefit. The analogy of the ferryman demonstrates the ability to rescue and deliver. In the third part, from 'having explained, summarizing' downward, it comprehensively determines the intentional meaning with respect to the Buddha: the meaning within is that regarding these activities of benefiting others in [nirvāṇa] without remainder, as well as various other secrets of merit and wisdom for self-benefit and other-benefit, bodhisattvas at various stages should conform and adapt correctly; in truth, before the bhūmis they already possess the three receptivities. Here, only mentioning 'inferior receptivity' is spoken with reference to the beginning, as detailed in the Maulī Bhūmiḥ.
