Ninth, explaining brief meaning and extensive meaning. The text has three turns: the first turn says that brief meaning is preaching that dharmas are conjoined with their own kind, as when speaking of form, etc., without mentioning anything else; extensive meaning is preaching that dharmas are conjoined with different kinds, as when speaking of the cause of form, one immediately speaks of mind, etc. The second turn says that sūtras of provisional meaning are called brief, and sūtras of definitive meaning are called extensive. In the third turn, it first explains the brevity and extensiveness of names and meanings, and next cites teachings to corroborate it.
