下釋所引經意，於契經中文廣義略等者，長行散說文廣義略，頌中文略攝多義，下以一頌攝前十門，德是勝利，非德過患，頌與長行次第不同，以乘言便故也。

Below, explaining the intent of the cited sūtra: as for "in the sūtras the text is extensive while the meaning is brief", prose expositions in discursive style have extensive text and brief meaning, whereas verses have brief text that gathers many meanings. Below, a single verse gathers the preceding ten gates; virtue refers to advantages, and non-virtue refers to disadvantages. The sequence of the verse differs from the prose because it follows the convenience of expression.
