The phrase "seven stages and four bodhisattva practices": as explained previously in the forty-ninth fascicle: "What are the seven stages? First, the stage of gotra; second, the stage of practice of resolute intention; third, the stage of pure superior aspiration; fourth, the stage of performing correct practice; fifth, the stage of determination; sixth, the stage of determined practice; seventh, the stage of reaching the ultimate." It also says: "In all bodhisattva stages there are four bodhisattva practices: first, the practice of pāramitā; second, the practice of factors of awakening; third, the practice of supernormal powers; fourth, the practice of maturing sentient beings." The extensive explanation is as in that text.
