本事者，謂除本生，宣說前際諸所有事者，除說菩薩本生，說於菩薩過去身外之事及說他人生本生外本事，盡名本事。

Itivṛttaka [past occurrences] means: "excluding jātaka, preaching all occurrences of the past limit": excluding accounts of the bodhisattva's own past births, accounts of events outside the past bodies of the bodhisattva and accounts of other persons' past occurrences outside their own past births are all called itivṛttaka.
