21.57

泰云：既云於初地中要知方起煩惱，故知二地中云離能起誤心。犯戒煩惱者，是地前所起，至於二地伏彼種子，非初地中現起。

Tai says: 'Since it states that in the first stage one must be conscious [of it] before giving rise to defilements, we know that when it is said in the second stage that one is free from the defilements of violating the precepts with an erroneous mind, these are what arose prior to the stages; by the time one reaches the second stage, their seeds are subdued, and they do not arise actively in the first stage.'
