Third, the ordinary person who has already entered the sacred teaching also has three aspects: 1. ceasing and not arising: namely, hearing of selflessness eliminates the view of self, but having not directly awakened to the right view of selflessness, it is not called arising; 2. arising and not ceasing: this person, as heard before, is gradually able to awaken to the right view of selflessness regarding the principle of selflessness, which can be called arising, but the latencies not being severed, it is not called ceasing; from this point onward, by the power of the path of cultivation realizing the direct comprehension of the truths, they only then sever the latencies and give rise to the taintless, which is called both arising and ceasing.
