From "Karma experienced in the present life" down to "all karma performed": regarding karma of retribution in the three times, with the exception of the five deadly sins and the karma of a wheel-turning king, for the rest of karma one cannot point out the marks of its operation; such karma obtains retribution in the present life or the next life, but one can only speak of it in a general and tentative manner. "Activity of application" means arranging gifts and giving, and so forth. If it is of such characteristics, it is truly because of all karma performed that ripening matures in the present life, as when it is said that upon benevolence, non-contention, cessation, the path of seeing, and the non-trainee receiving correct prediction from them, the giver immediately obtains the fruit; [the retributions in] subsequent lives and after may be understood. From "karma of the trainee" down to "and wholesome tainted karma obtained subsequently": this text is based solely on noble trainees; the taintless three karmas and the wholesome tainted karma in their bodies are called trainee [karma]. This is said based on the real trainee; elsewhere, texts call wholesome [roots] conducive to liberation, wholesome [roots] conducive to penetration, and taintless karma of the path of seeing and cultivation all "trainee [karma]", which is spoken generally based on resemblance. From "karma of the non-trainee" down to "all karma as appropriate": the taintless three karmas and the tainted wholesome three karmas in the body of a non-trainee are all karma of the non-trainee. As for "all other karma is called neither trainee nor non-trainee": karma of the three natures in the body of an ordinary being, unwholesome obscured karma in the body of a trainee, and unobscured [indeterminate] karma in the body of a non-trainee are all neither.
