言現法斷者至此是異生，未得離欲，住此命終者，未離欲凡夫，先以故思造業，而起厭離，厭伏不行，既未離欲命終，還生當地，而未能令於次生位不造彼業。不受異熟等者，雖於現法厭所造業，而不能令此所厭業不牽生報，亦不能令次生身中更不造業，亦不能令於其後位無造業事也。言於現法中，亦未一向能令不造者，現身雖暫厭伏所造，亦未必能令一身之中更不重造。

Regarding "severed in the present life" down to "this is an ordinary being who has not yet attained freedom from desire, and dies residing in this": an ordinary being who has not freed themselves from desire previously created karma with intention, but then gives rise to disgust and renunciation, suppressing it so that it does not operate. Since they die without having freed themselves from desire, they are reborn in that very stage, but they have not yet been able to prevent creating that karma in the subsequent rebirth position, nor to prevent experiencing ripening, and so forth. Although they feel disgust for the karma created in the present life, they cannot prevent this disgusted karma from drawing forth retribution in the next birth, nor can they prevent creating karma again in the body of the next birth, nor can they prevent the creating of karma in later stages. Regarding "in the present life they are also not unconditionally able to prevent creating it": although in the present life they temporarily suppress what was created, they are also not necessarily able to prevent creating it again within this single life.
