As for the text from "Furthermore, there is a class..." downward: it means there is a class who have not yet separated from greed; because their greed arisen toward desires is not severed, and investigations and defiled contacts are not permanently severed, all are not yet quiescent. If one's greed toward desires is severed and one has attained the desirelessness of the first absorption, the dhyāna is not yet quiescent. For one who has separated from greed regarding the first absorption, up to one who has not separated from greed regarding neither-conceptualization[-nor-non-conceptualization], the two are already quiescent, but contact is not yet quiescent. Transcending the peak of existence, all are quiescent; this is named the second distinct gate.
