第五解知差別中，初明了知應知事，後辨了知境事差別。前中，前辨了知諦別有用，二、引經四句，配前四用，即有四句。下辨了境事差別中，先約雜染品辨境差別，後約清淨品辨境差別。前中，七者、有喜樂識所行邊際差別者，七識住也。九者、喜樂執藏有情生處安住邊際，九有情居也。

Fifth, within explaining differences in knowing, it first clarifies knowing what should be known, and next distinguishes differences in known objective affairs. Within the former, it first distinguishes that knowing the truths has distinct functions; second, it cites four phrases from the sutra to match the previous four functions, thus yielding four phrases. Below, in distinguishing differences in objective affairs, it first distinguishes objects with reference to the defiled category, and next distinguishes objects with reference to the pure category. Within the former: 'seventh, differences in the boundaries traversed by consciousness endowed with joy and pleasure' refers to the seven stations of consciousness; 'ninth, the boundaries of abiding places of sentient beings grasping and harboring joy and pleasure' refers to the nine abodes of sentient beings.
