The second [gate] explains dwelling on the snow mountain: it says that within the snow mountain there are three places: first, the place where beasts and hunters both reach; second, the place where only apes and monkeys can reach and hunters cannot reach; third, the place where neither can reach. The first place is a metaphor for internal texts generating other [rebirths?]. The second place is a metaphor for the three fruits of those in training. The third place is a metaphor for the stage of those beyond training. Regarding 'Furthermore, all foolish ordinary beings must observe other objects up to not attaining liberation': when ordinary beings detach from desires, delighting in the higher and disliking the lower, seeking higher objects to escape lower objects, up to the object of neither perception nor non-perception, they still do not attain liberation.
