Fifth, explaining declarative prediction (vyākaraṇa). Master Jing says: 'There are those who have accomplished the four kinds of verified faith; relying solely on their own four kinds of verified faith, they make declarative predictions for others, and so on'—this means that when obtaining the first fruition, during the preparatory stages prior to the path of seeing such as heat and so forth toward bodhi, one only contemplates the truth-principles and does not engage in phenomenal contemplation taking the six recollections and so on as objects. Therefore, when obtaining the fruition, all that was taken as object in the former preparatory stages is verified; that is to say, one verifies and sees the four truths such that different forms of suffering cannot be made into pleasure, which is the very substance of the Three Jewels, supreme and ultimate. Having verified it oneself, one also declares it for others, and it cannot be shifted or altered. One does not rely on the higher stage of cultivation [here], since through holding the precepts one attains freedom from remorse up to attaining concentration. 'If in the higher stages... up to: because they have not yet visibly seen those gods' means that when obtaining the second fruition, within the preparatory path it ranges through the worldly and transworldly; in one kind of preparatory mundane path, one is able to practice five recollections, excluding the recollection of gods. Because one has not yet abandoned desire, one lacks that divine eye and does not see the taintless ultimate-truth gods of the form realm, and thus does not recollect the gods. Later, when verifying the second fruition, one verifies and sees what was taken as object in the preparatory path and declares it for others. Among the five recollections, morality is taintless morality, and relinquishment is precisely non-greed. When obtaining the fruition, verifying the Three Jewels is also like this.
