"A karman for going forth: for instance, when a layperson wishes to go forth, the assembly must be gathered and an announcement made, after which the shaving of the hair and so forth are performed for him, for fear that his parents do not permit it, or that he is a thief, a slave, an official, or the like; once the assembly has assented, only then are the three refuges proclaimed and the ten precepts received. The receipt of full ordination is understandable. Regarding 'if a person is of the same intention,' Master Jing says: 'Whenever one wishes to undertake a matter and harmonizes the assembly to have the same intention, this is called a karman of concordant intention. There is also another explanation: it is the karman of subjugating an offender, such as when undergoing the six-night [penance].'"
