24.38

前中，外人云：四聖諦唯是生善境界不攝善法，今總遮云勿作是說，所以者何？無量善法皆歸四諦，勸知正義中，初略標宗，次開章廣釋，第三總結開章。釋中，彼復修習修身念故，是一章門，觀品第二，止品第三。

In the former [part], the outsider says: "The four noble truths are merely cognitive spheres that generate wholesome [states], but do not subsume wholesome dharmas." Now, it refutes this comprehensively, saying: "Do not speak thus. Why is this? Immeasurable wholesome dharmas all reduce to the four truths." In exhorting understanding of the correct doctrine: first, it briefly establishes the main thesis; next, it opens the sections and explains them in detail; third, it generally concludes the opening of the sections. In the explanation, "further, because they cultivate mindfulness of the body" is one section heading; the class of observation is the second, and the class of calming is the third.
