言由未斷緣餘得生義,二顯無常緣生,非無生法為因少所生法而得成立,後二顯勢用生義,謂第三雖復諸法無作,第四雖復諸法無常,然不隨一法為緣故一切果生,以諸法功能差別故作如是說,或第一破作用緣生,第二破常住緣生,第三顯勢用緣生,第四破不平等緣生他作我受果失。
The words "due to the conditions not being severed, others are able to arise" mean that the second phrase shows conditioned arising as impermanent, for it is not by unarisen phenomena serving as causes that any arisen phenomenon can be established. The latter two phrases show the meaning of arising through efficacious potency: that is, although phenomena lack agency (as in the third phrase), and although phenomena are impermanent (as in the fourth phrase), it is not that all fruitions arise by following merely any single phenomenon as a condition. Because the capacities of phenomena differ, it is stated thus. Alternatively, the first refutes conditioned arising through agency; the second refutes conditioned arising through permanence; the third shows conditioned arising through efficacious potency; and the fourth refutes the fault of unequal conditioned arising where one acts and another receives the fruit.
