自然運轉作意者，謂於四時一得作意時者，下相攝得第六七意時，離第九品染無間解脫道，二正入已入根本定時者，由得此二作意故能正入根靜慮，此前二時是見道前方便，三修現觀時由前方便得入見道及與修道修於現觀，第四時者阿羅漢位正得謂無間道，已得謂解脫道。

Regarding 'mental application that operates naturally', which refers to 'four occasions': First, 'the occasion of attaining mental application', which under the subsumption below is when the sixth and seventh mental applications are attained, during the path of uninterrupted progress and the path of liberation that separate from the ninth grade of defilement. Second, 'the occasion of entering or having entered the fundamental absorption': because one has attained these two mental applications, one can correctly enter the fundamental dhyāna; these preceding two occasions are the preparatory stages prior to the path of seeing. Third, 'the occasion of cultivating direct realization': through the preceding preparatory stages, one is able to enter the path of seeing and the path of cultivation to cultivate direct realization. As for the fourth occasion, in the stage of an arhat, 'correctly attaining' refers to the path of uninterrupted progress, and 'having attained' refers to the path of liberation.
