若依後門勝解作意，或有非七作意攝，謂或有最初思擇諸法，或奢摩他而為上首，通為彼七作意，故云就後門者當知隨應。

If based on the latter gate, the mental application of resolute faith may not be subsumed by the seven mental applications—meaning some initially discern dharmas—or it may have śamatha as foremost, generally serving as those seven mental applications. Therefore, it is said: 'In accordance with the latter gate, it should be understood as appropriate.'
