Jing explains: Regarding viewing the superior dhyāna, it says that first, relying on false teachings, one arouses the view of permanence; next, it says that by such means one enters the first dhyāna and so forth, being able to attain purity, and so on. That teacher also teaches that if one enters the eight concentrations, one attains such permanence, self, purity, and liberation; and relying on that teaching, one gives rise to attachment to views. Relying on the view of permanence and attachment to views, one exerts vigorous effort and cultivates entry into the first concentration or other concentrations; furthermore, through the power of concentration, seeing past events, one again gives rise to the view of permanence. Next, it clarifies that relying on the view, one cultivates and attains dhyāna; next, relying on the power of concentration, knowing past events, one again gives rise to the view of permanence.
