What is spoken of here as "referring to being separated from sentient beings, living souls, and so forth" is the empty object that is emptied within what is contemplated; the mind abiding in one-pointedness is that knowledge of emptiness. This is based on the emptiness contemplated in common across the three vehicles: since it merely speaks of being separated from sentient beings, living souls, and so forth, it speaks only of the emptiness of persons and does not speak of dharmas; it speaks only of what is emptied and does not speak of the realized emptiness. That text speaks of non-duality, manifesting both existence and non-existence; this text speaks of what is non-existent without distinguishing true existence, so they are not contradictory.
