Third, based on this initial text, the four of the path are not subsumed under the three. The twenty-eighth fascicle also states: 'Objects of knowledge are of two kinds: existent and nonexistent. Emptiness is established on the basis of the nonexistent. The existent has two kinds: first, the conditioned; second, the unconditioned. What is bound by the triple realm is called the conditioned basis, on which the gate of liberation through the wishless is established; nirvāṇa is called the unconditioned basis, on which the gate of liberation through the signless is established.' Hence we know the four of the path are not subsumed under the three. The fifty-fifth fascicle also states: 'Emptiness subsumes two aspects, the wishless subsumes six aspects, and the signless subsumes four aspects. The aspects of the truth of the path are the causes of purity; they are not subsumed under the three gates, and because they are not tainted they are not the wishless.'
