The first text has ten phrases. Regarding "benefit and well-being are what are revealed by all immeasurables": because within all four immeasurables both exist. Fascicle forty-four states: "The first three are well-being and the last one is benefit." That text says that the first three bestow present worldly benefit, termed well-being, while the last one bestows subsequent supramundane benefit, termed benefit; hence the two are distinguished. Here, it relies on the fact that all four can both eradicate suffering and bestow happiness, and all can bestow both minor and major fruits of wisdom and merit; hence both are termed benefit and well-being. "Free from enmity, free from hostility, free from afflictive harm" are matched in turn with mental, vocal, and bodily karma. "Like the diverse convergence of the many currents of the four great rivers": this is a metaphor for the four immeasurables being the gathering of numerous wholesomenesses.
