第五喻中，於所觀相慇懃懇到等如前釋者，景云：如此卷前文修知見定中解及慇懃懇到審諦而取等相。言是此中總義者，此第五喻，總喻四定觀如斷惑，但舉法說不舉喻文。

In the fifth simile, 'attentively and earnestly [observing] the object of contemplation, etc., as explained previously': Jing says: This is as explained in the preceding text of this fascicle on the concentration of cultivating knowledge and vision, grasping the marks with earnestness, diligence, and careful scrutiny. Stating that 'this is the general meaning here': this fifth simile generally illustrates that the contemplation of the four concentrations is like severing defilements; it only presents the doctrinal explanation without presenting the text of the simile.
