Among the three desires, 'employing much effort, relying on conditions for desires' refers to 'all desires abiding presently': the desires of the lower four desire heavens mostly arise relying on various present conditions, and only arise from them through effortful recollection; or alternatively, they only begin to mature later through effort via the ripening of karma. Regarding the three awakenings: the three also correspond to the three wisdoms, matched respectively. Although all three vehicles subsequently possess the three wisdoms, they are described in this way according to what is predominant in their characteristics.
