Regarding "by taking samādhi as object up to ... therefore it is called superior": this explains the reason why it receives the name "superior" within concentration. Because it takes a single category of form as object, unlike the mixed taking of large and small as objects prior to concentration, it is called superior. Alternatively, form that is not of samādhi has signs of large and small, being fundamental form; while "by taking samādhi as object up to therefore it is called superior" takes form within concentration as object, and because it takes only a single category as object, it is called superior, being the reflected image of the previously described diverse fundamental [forms]. Because the prior mind of preliminary preparation has diverse objective signs, it is not a superior object and does not receive the name superior; within samādhi, the object is of only a single category and the mind has no disparate signs, hence it is called superior.
