In establishing the proposition, 'individually adopting what is accepted by one's own class' is the general text. 'Adopting' means one's own intention; 'class' means the proposition. Therefore the Prakaraṇāryavācā, fascicle eleven, says: 'what is accepted by one's own proposition.' The meaning here is that based on the two things to be established, the debaters are distinct, and according to their own intention, they adopt what is accepted by their own proposition, hence it is called establishing the proposition. There are three explanations here: First, matching words against principle, taking the distinct expression based on the meaning is called what is individually accepted by one's own proposition; second, matching the distinct against the general, taking the words and meanings of the distinct based on the general is called what is accepted by oneself; third, matching combination against separation, taking the inseparable combination of that which is supported as what is accepted by one's own proposition; establishing the proposition relies on the separated meaning as that which is established; therefore this text is general.
