今言初中上士則三種八轉中各有三故，過去過去殊勝等者，近過去名過去，遠過去名殊勝，未來亦爾，現在長時名現在，現在剎那名殊勝。

Now, speaking of inferior, middling, and superior persons, there are three in each of the three sets of eight cases. Regarding 'past, remote past, and eminent past': the near past is called 'past', and the distant past is called 'eminent [past]'; the future is likewise. In the present, an extended period of time is called 'present', while a momentary present is called 'eminent'.
