In the third section, regarding 'the distinctive causal bases and time periods': the Abhidharmasamuccaya states that at the time of cause, there are the inducing and the induced; at the time of effect, there are the producing and the produced; the state of the inducing cause is called the cause, and the state of maturation and transformation is called the effect; these two are called time periods. Therefore, it is said here that 'phenomena with causes' and 'manifold sufferings with causes': the former seven, being with causes, are called phenomena with causes; the latter two are manifold sufferings; yet craving, grasping, and existence, being with causes, are called manifold sufferings with causes.
