Regarding "if it belongs to the past, it can indeed be conceptually constructed, because in this and that manner, characteristics that were once experienced can be conceptually constructed": this explains the statement in the verse that the past can be conceptually constructed and is able to give rise to defilement. Regarding "it is not only what has been previously experienced that can be conceptually constructed, up to giving rise to various defilements": this explains the verse's "one conceptually constructs what was previously experienced, and also conceptually constructs what was not previously experienced." The intention of this statement shows that it is not only past objects previously experienced that can be conceptually constructed to give rise to defilements; present objects that have not been previously experienced, precisely because they were not previously experienced, do not have their characteristics distinctly grasped, yet according with the classes previously attained in the past, these present new objects can also be conceptually constructed to give rise to defilements. The concluding text is self-evident.
