'Because of generating desire toward wholesome factors' explains 'generating desire' and 'not increasing evil' in the verse. 'Being intensely disgusted with desires' explains 'having no desires' and 'loathing evil.' 'In order to cultivate wholesome factors up to indulging in sleep' explains the earlier 'sleep is for capability and mental tranquility'; one should sleep at the proper times and not become fatigued, and semblance torpor is also subsumed herein. 'If the mind sinks down... up to not dwelling in quietude': The first explains freedom from sleep, because of contemplating the pure and subtle marks of light. The latter explains freedom from restlessness by cultivating semblance restlessness, because of not dwelling in quietude when wandering for alms and engaging in the benefit of others; alternatively, not dwelling in quietude also explains freedom from sleep, because dwelling in quietude at times increases sleep. 'Regarding past violations, generating worry and remorse' explains the earlier 'remorse.' 'Regarding what was not violated, having no worry or remorse' explains freedom from remorse. 'Generating aspiration and anxious concern for what is successively superior' explains 'generating aspiration and anxious concern for the superior,' which conversely reveals not aspiring and not feeling anxious concern for what is progressively subtle and inferior; this demonstrates semblance doubt as removing the marks of true doubt. The five hindrances above are all described as semblance hindrances in order to depart from the true hindrances. Regarding 'earnest, uninterrupted, right preparatory application': 'Earnest' means of all kinds, which is complete cultivation; 'uninterrupted' means constant; 'right preparatory application' means preparatory cultivation.
