第二段頌中第一句是道諦與滅諦為跡，第三句由道諦證滅諦，第二句集諦為苦諦因跡，第四句由有集諦常受苦諦。釋中，依四所依、立四護者，即以四種不放逸，為四所依立四種護，由不放逸令命得全即立命護，由不放逸令身得全即立力護，由不放逸心離雜染即立心雜染護，由不放逸修涅槃道即立正方便護。

In the second section's verse, the first line is the path truth serving as the footprint for the cessation truth; the third line is that, by means of the path truth, one realizes the cessation truth; the second line is the origin truth serving as the footprint of causes for the truth of suffering; the fourth line is that, because the origin truth exists, one constantly undergoes the truth of suffering. In the explanation, "relying on four bases, establishing four protections" means: taking the four kinds of non-negligence as the four bases, establishing four kinds of protection. Due to non-negligence, life is preserved, which establishes the protection of life; due to non-negligence, the body is preserved, which establishes the protection of strength; due to non-negligence, the mind is freed from defilement, which establishes the protection against mental defilement; due to non-negligence, one cultivates the path to nirvāṇa, which establishes the protection of proper means.
