'The bliss of internal quiescence' refers to manifesting solitary dwelling in the forest. 'And the bliss of a recluse' refers to manifesting the wholesome joy of holding the precepts without regret. With these two blisses as cause, the mind then attains meditative stabilization. The power of various superior meditative stabilizations can relinquish two types of formations: first, life-formations; second, existence-formations, which are the remaining defiled aggregates. Existence-formations are broad, while life-formations are narrow; discussing in terms of the broader, the verse does not mention life-formations. This birth of the form-body that is relinquished manifests as defiled, and being similar to what preceded it, is called 'exactly equal to what preceded'; the birth of the name-body of the four undefiled aggregates is not what is manifested, and because it is relinquished, it is unequal to what preceded. Therefore, there is a distinction between the two: the form-body is like an egg-shell repository; the four undefiled aggregates break the shell and are born, just as a chick is born; the distinction is also like this. Why is the meaning of equality and inequality of these two bodies, name and form, restated here? The former differentiates the meaning of equality and inequality of the form-body and name-body at the time of attaining bodhi; the latter clarifies the equality and inequality of the relinquished form- and name-bodies at the time of entering parinirvāṇa.
