In the single verse of the twelfth section: first, dwelling without any craving; second, conceptual proliferations without any craving; third, the simile of the wall being free from craving; fourth, the simile of the moat being free from craving. Therefore it is said that an arhat is perpetually free from craving and defilement; by virtue of these four aspects, he wanders through the worlds unrecognized by devas and humans. The commentary text is divided into two: first, explaining the latter half of the verse: 'The sage wanders in the world, / Unrecognized by devas and humans.' An arhat is called a sage (muni) because he realizes the silent dharma. Later, from 'How is it that arhats are free from craving?' onwards explains the first half of the verse, showing perpetual freedom from craving and distinctively displaying the four aspects. 'Lord of the Māra's enemies' refers to craving.
