5.98

增三有三十種門。言十相者，謂壞生命等者，壞字通以下十惡業，義相關故。約之以明門種根三以為初門，雜穢語名壞。所為事業者，於正事業不正而說名綺語故。

Increasing by three has thirty gates. The statement "ten aspects: destroying life, and so on": the word "destroying" applies generally downward through the ten unwholesome actions, as their meanings are interrelated. Based on this, the gates, seeds, and roots are clarified as the initial gate; offensive speech is called destroying. Regarding "purposeful activities": speaking improperly concerning proper activities is called frivolous speech.
