6.191

復由轉勝信等諸法乃至若道、若路、若正行跡，能得涅槃、能趣涅槃者，道謂七方便道，路謂道品八正路等，行跡即是四聖諦觀，故昔賢聖遊前道路，履前行跡，能得涅槃，能趣涅槃，彼於爾時能引方便道，能入八正路，能履四諦跡故，能漸次乃至究竟。

Furthermore, from 'due to ever more superior dharmas such as faith up to whether path, route, or correct footstep, able to attain nirvāṇa and able to proceed to nirvāṇa': 'path' refers to the path of the seven preliminary means; 'route' refers to the eightfold noble route of the factors of awakening and so forth; 'footstep' refers to the contemplation of the four noble truths. Therefore, when past worthies and noble ones traveled the preceding routes and trod the preceding footsteps, they were able to attain nirvāṇa and proceed to nirvāṇa. Because at that time one can induce the path of preliminary means, enter the eightfold noble route, and tread the footsteps of the four truths, one can gradually advance up to final culmination.
