In the fourth gate, there is a further alternative: First, one who has only entered, has not yet approached achievement, has not yet achieved, and has not yet attained the departure of the path of seeing, because the time of cultivation is recent. Second, one who has entered and is approaching achievement but has not yet achieved, not yet having attained departure, having already cultivated through multiple lifetimes but not yet abiding in the final body, and so forth. Third, one who has already entered and also already achieved, but has not departed, abiding in the final body without yet attaining the path of seeing. Fourth, there are others, as spoken of in the Gotrabhūmi regarding soft faculties and so forth, which should be understood: therein it says that there are either three kinds of persons with soft, medium, and sharp faculties; or those with wrong conduct and those without wrong conduct; those with practice hindered and unhindered; those with far practice and near practice; those unripened and ripened; or those unpurified and purified.
