In the second, broadly explaining "for temporary sustenance," the text divides into three: first, generally stating that the noble assembly associates with what is faultless, which is called temporarily sustaining life; next, question and answer open five phrases; and afterwards, individually explains them. 1. Explaining that receiving food and drink to remove hunger and thirst frees one from the hardship of the first fault, hunger and emaciation. 2. Explaining that receiving food and drink to maintain the brahma-practice is free from the aforementioned hardships of physical heaviness, a dull mind not quickly attaining absorption, and being troubled by drowsiness and sleep. 3. Explaining receiving food for the purpose of eradication. 4. Explaining causing new feelings not to arise in the future. 5. Explaining maintaining and nourishing and so forth, which has five phrases: (1) sustenance, (2) strength, (3) pleasure, (4) faultlessness, and (5) abiding in peace.
